Dan Rascher, Ph. D.

Daniel Rascher teaches and publishes research on sports business topics, and consults to the sports and entertainment industry. He specializes in economics and finance and more specifically in industrial organization, antitrust, competition analysis, M&As, valuation, analytics, econometrics, economic impact, market readiness, feasibility research, marketing research, damages analysis, class certification, strategy, and labor issues in the sports industry. Dr. Rascher founded SportsEconomics to enable sports enterprises to capitalize on the sports industry's transition from hobby status to multi-billion dollar industry. As Founder and President of SportsEconomics, LLC, Partner at OSKR, LLC, and former Principal at LECG, LLC, his clients in more than 200 engagements have included organizations involved in the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAA, NASCAR, MLS, PGA, WTA, FIFA, media, sporting goods & apparel, boxing, mixed martial arts, minor league baseball, NHRA, AHL, Formula 1, Indy Car racing, American Le Mans racing, Premier League Football, NASL, women’s professional soccer, professional cycling & swimming, endurance sports, Indian Premier League, ticketing, facility development, IHRSA, youth sports, music, as well as the DOJ, FTC, IRS, EEOC, sports commissions, local and state government, convention and visitors bureaus, tourism businesses, entrepreneurs, and B2B enterprises.
Dr. Rascher earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He is Director of Academic Programs and Professor in the Sport Management Program at the University of San Francisco (USF), where he also teaches courses in sports economics and finance, and applied research methods. He has also taught at Northwestern University, Stanford University, the IE Business School in Madrid, and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). He has authored or co-authored over 70 publications including multiple editions of a textbook in the sport management and economics fields, has been interviewed hundreds of times by the media for his opinion on various aspects of the business of sports, and has given over 100 presentations at professional and academic conferences. Dr. Rascher has served on the editorial boards of nine journals including Journal of Sport Management, Sport Management Review, International Journal of Sport Finance, and the Journal of the Quantitative Analysis of Sports. He has been named Research Fellow of NASSM, received the ASMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award, won Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Economics from AAI twice (for Alston v. NCAA & House v. NCAA), and the Sonny Vaccaro Impact Award (CSRI at U. South Carolina). Dan is also certified as a valuation analyst (CVA) by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts.
Dr. Rascher has been named as an expert witness in dozens of cases, given dozens of depositions, and written dozens of expert reports. He has testified at six federal trials, three state trials, three arbitrations, and two hearings, and given numerous public testimonies to government.
